ABOUT THE PLAY
Jane arrives, after a year-long trip to Europe, at her familys cabin in the Sierras, in time for Gotcha Day, her familys annual celebration of the date of her adoption. She returns with an exuberant and optimistic outlook, which she believes is a result of both her life-changing adventure and her choice to stop taking the medication for her bipolar disorder. But events of the weekend trigger Jane into a deepening mania, leaving her family desperately trying to help a loved one struggling with mental illness.

AUDIENCE WARNING: Family Cabins contains strong language and mature content.

NAMI SACRAMENTO
Asymptotic Productions is honored to present Family Cabins in cooperation with the NAMI Sacramento, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. They are the only local mental health agency offering support, education, and advocacy for people coping with their own mental illness and for their family members, too. They receive no government funding and are entirely self-supported. All profits from the production will be donated to NAMI Sacramento. For more information on their programs, see www.namisacramento.org.

THE WRITER
Irwin Rosenblum:  Irwin is a Sacramento native, where he lives with his wife, his daughter, one smart, and one very dumb cat. Irwins short play, Adorable Doris, was selected for production at Weathervane Theaters 8x10 festival in Akron, OH. Recently, he directed his short Sumpin For Breakfast at Theater One. Family Cabins is his first full-length production. Irwin earned his B.S. in Engineering from the University of California and his M.S. in Critical Studies from the University of Southern California.

THE DIRECTOR
Leo MeElroy: After a long career as a network newsman (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS), Leo McElroy returned to his early love of the theater and has acted in, written, and/or directed some two dozen plays in the Sacramento area in the last ten years.  He is the winner of two Elly Awards (Homecoming, Echoes In The Heart) and six Elly nominations for Best New Play.  He has appeared in plays at Big Idea Theater, Chautauqua, and Nevada City, and is a founding member of Sacramento Playwrights Collaborative.  His most-noticed film role was as the befuddled reporter who makes life miserable for Albert Brooks and Charles Grodin in Paramounts Real Life.

THE CAST
Andrea Kersten (Jane): Acting in the role of Jane hits close to home for Andrea, who is currently embarking on what she hopes to be a long career in mental health services and psychology. Her start in theatre began by portraying nearly every young blonde fairy tale character on stage (Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, and Goldilocks), Andrea occasionally decides to act her age in roles such as Emily in The Meatgrinder and Lilly in Final Rewrite (both with Genesis Productions), Shelby in Steel Magnolias (Theatre One), Emily in Our Town (West Campus), and Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker (West Campus). She is a regular in the Sacramento Area Theatre scene and has received two Elly Awards for her work. She recently made the jump to film and can be seen in local films such as Breaking News and Plans, in addition to working as a background actor in the Netflix Original Show 13 Reasons Why.

Shane Burrows (Eli): Shane Burrows, a Sacramento native, is thrilled to be a part of Howe Avenue Theatres first production. He recently performed at Sutter Street Theatre in You Cant Take It With You as Tony Kirby. You may also remember him at Sutter Street as The Emperor in The Emperors New Clothes, which earned him his first Elly nomination. Some of his favorite credits include Schmendiman in Picasso at the Lapine Agile at Resurrection Theatre and Alex in The Little Dog Laughed at Closet Door Theatre, where he bared it all. In addition, he has been in a number of independent films and local film festivals, been a guest actor on Discovery Channels I (Almost) Got Away With It and featured on Christina Aguileras album Back To Basics. Shane would like to extend his love to his fellow cast mates, the crew, and all his friends and family who support his passion for the performing arts.

Jennifer York (Rose): Jennifer is thrilled to be performing in Family Cabins.  She most recently performed in Rules of Law the sellout Legal drama by Ron Tochterman.  In the Sacramento area, she has also performed in Harvey (Sutter Street Theater), Murder by Membership Only (Free Fall Stage), A Murder is Announced (Mission Avenue Players) and Sylvia (Bob & Ro Productions). She has also done readings for the Playwright's Collaborative and was recently in the first public reading of The Porch by Karen Devaney.

Dan Cohen (David): Dan was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and holds a degree in Acting from Thomas More College. Some of his favorite past roles include Lennie in Of Mice and Men, Horton in Seussical the Musical, Tateh in Ragtime, and most recently Mitch in Tuesdays with Morrie. During the day, Dan works in the private aviation industry as the VP of Inside Sales at XOJET, He lives in Rosemont with his wife, Kasmira and their two border collies, Jasper and Jackson where he also practices photography, birding, and following various Cincinnati sports teams. Dan would extend special thanks to Irwin for this opportunity, and hopes everyone enjoys Family Cabins.
